Where is the best place to enjoy cherry blossoms? Kyoto, Washington, DC, New Jersey? The pink blooms can be seen in many neighborhoods across the Garden State. In fact, Bellville townships stakes a claim as the “Cherry Blossom Capital” due to its large number of cherry blossom trees. The town claims to have over 8,000 cherry blossom trees including those located in Branch Brook Park.
Essex County’s Branch Brook Park, partially located in Belleville and partially in Newark’s north ward, is a perfect place to enjoy some of New Jersey’s most beautiful cherry blossoms. The park celebrates its natural beauty with a series of events through the month of April, culminating in Bloomfest!
After days of clouds and rain, the weather was perfect for this year’s BloomFest!: sunny skies, sparkling water and perfectly pink blooms.
The festival was spread out over the park with several vendors and two stages featuring bands and demonstrations of Japanese cultural. For example, a traditional Japanese dancers performed a dance dramatizing a day out enjoying cherry blossoms.
Visiting the Park
Even if it’s too late to enjoy cherry blossoms, Branch Brook Park is still a great place for walking, strolling or bicycling on a sunny day. Also, Branch Brook Lake is stocked with trout and is a popular spot for fishing. The next scheduled event is the Summer Music Symphony Orchestra Celebration with Fireworks on June 30, 2017.
